What a wild and crazy last week, but so exciting. I had the grand prize winners from a Pickle Barrel contest come to my home for a wonderful evening of conversation and food. This consisted of 5 couples. What a talented group of people. Most had young families and were working full time. I have a few shots of them to show you. One of the gentlemen was a senior employee of HSBC and quite the coincidence he was at an event we catered at the Toronto Stock Exchange for the Junior Achievement Awards just a few nights later. To add to fate, he also booked a large dinner party at “Glow”. It’s truly a small world!
The next day “Glow” had the parents from “Crescent Boys School” lunch at our restaurant. The entire restaurant was closed for this function and I was given the opportunity to talk to the parents about how important feeding our children, the next generation, truly is. The most common mistake we make is looking at our children or spouses and not worrying if they’re thin. Wrong! Our skinny kids are eating junk but just metabolizing more efficiently. They may be even more prone to diabetes type 2, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. If you’re concerned about how your child is eating, but is thin, just get the doctor to do a simple blood and urine test. Many pediatricians are now doing these tests on a regular basis. Remember the saying – “you can’t judge a book by it’s cover!”
Breakfast Television and Jennifer Valentyne came up to “Glow” the next morning to do a “live eye”. 5:30 am!!! Oh boy. Our sous chef Sean met me there as we prepped for a four segment piece. It was fantastic. Jennifer is such a lovely individual. We made our famous flatbread pizza, lobster mac and cheese and tasted our shot glass desserts, (Jennifer got addicted to our Peanut Butter!). We served hot chocolate and biscotti to the skaters on the ice rink just outside “Glow” and so many “groupies” came to see Jennifer. Now that’s star power.
Well what a great week, but so exhausting. Thank goodness for this upcoming “Family day” weekend. We sure all need it! Relax and we’ll talk next week.
