Personal Gourmet Food Intelligence: Is Junk Food Really Cheaper?
It’s common belief that eating healthier at home is more expensive than fast food.. A family meal for 4 at McDonalds including two Big Macs, a cheeseburger, six chicken McNuggets, two medium and two small fries, and two medium and two small sodas — costs just under $30. Lunch with the Cadesky’s
Hopefully the Cadesky’s are now getting into the habit of starting to eat a healthier breakfast. If so, they will start to feel somewhat hungry for a satisfying lunch. Once again, most of us eat too little at lunch, then come into the home famished and eat everything in sight. Odelya, the mom eats too little. The fat free cottage cheese and melba toast will only fill her for a short time. I suggested to enjoy 2% cottage cheese which tastes creamier without adding many more calories and fat to her day. Dump the melba toast and try the Ry Crisp crackers which have 2 gm of fibre per slice. Or go for a higher fibre bread. If calories are the issue, Weight Watchers puts out a bread that’s half the calories of regular bread.
Canada AM – Healthy Eating Habits in 2012 – Day 2 – Breakfast
How often have we heard that the most important meal of the day is Breakfast – spelled with a capital B! Why? Because after our last meal, about 12 hours earlier, our energy is pretty much depleted. This means we’re starting the tank on empty. Fatigue, sluggishness and mental fog are some of the symptoms. Skipping breakfast or barely eating in the morning is a common factor in the Cadesky family. Dad runs out with a Kashi bar with coffee, cream and sugar. Mom skips breakfast at home and eats some low fat cottage cheese with melba toast at the office, which cannot sustain her. Atara, the 16 year old munches on Welches fruit chewies, definitely no food groups here! And Ryenn has the best habits eating some egg, Kashi bar, goat cheese and Kabasa. I’ll advise her to drop the nitrate meats! The egg has enough protein.
Canada AM – Healthy Eating Habits in 2012 – Day 1 – Introduction
Last week I had the opportunity through CTV, Canada AM, to visit a typical Canadian family outside Toronto and discuss their New Year’s eating and exercise resolutions. Well I wasn’t surprised listening to their daily habits. Like most parents today, mom and dad both work full time and take care of two teenage girls, who are quite delightful, but still teenagers!
Happy New Year To All!
The Christmas break is a great holiday since most of the country goes into a different mode. Businesses are either shut down or working at a slower capacity, school’s out and it’s really about connecting to family. Every Christmas for 28 years my family and I have gone away together to become reacquainted. We all headed down to Steamboat Colorado where one either skis or snowboards.
