Chronic inflammation is the cause of serious illnesses including heart disease, cancers, obesity, diabetes type 2 and Alzheimer’s.  Stress, toxins and lack of exercise can contribute as well as the foods we eat. There’s an anti-inflammatory food pyramid that describes the best to worst foods. Best foods include:

  • Fruits and vegetables followed by whole grains and beans.
  • Omega 3 fatty acids found in canola and olive oils, fatty fish, nuts and flax seeds reduces cardiovascular disease.
  • The best protein sources include  fish and seafood followed by soy products.
  • Lean poultry, meat, yogurt and eggs should be consumed only 1 -2 times weekly.
  • The worst inflammatory foods include processed, packaged foods and deep fried foods that increases inflammation.
  • Avoid high fat meats, sugar, saturated and trans fats and refined flours.
  • And most important,  healthy body weight lessens inflammation.
