In the past it was deemed unhealthy to consume coconut oil since it was a saturated fat, known to clog our arteries and raise our cholesterol.
Studies today find that coconut oil’s saturated fat called lauric acid can increase the good cholesterol, improves cholesterol ratio levels and helps restore normal thyroid function. The advocates for coconut oil say that half the saturated fat is easier to digest than other saturated fats. Confusing because Coconut oil is more than 90% saturated fat compared to 63% for butter. It comes in a white solid form and can be stored at room temperature for years.
Research on the effects of these type of unusual fats is still very preliminary. It’s still hard for me to digest the facts, no pun intended. I think I’ll keep using it for my skin.
