Healthy Spices

Take a better look at those spices hiding away in your cupboard.  They may be an amazing source of antioxidants, even more than fruits and vegetables:

  • Turmeric: used in South Asian and Indian cooking contains curcumin,  a compound that inhibits the growth of cancer cells, as well a lowering cholesterol and reducing the effects of arthritis.
  • Cinnamon: used in many cuisines prevents blood clotting, lowers sugar levels that can lead to diabetes type 2, lowers the bad cholesterol and can prevent bacteria that causes colds and sore throats.
  • Ginger: used either fresh or ground is often the cure for travel sickness and nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Ginger alleviates gastrointestinal issues and is associated with the prevention of colon cancer.

So spice up your life by incorporating these flavours in your next meal!
