The grill is our go-to way to cook in the summer. While we may think we’re being healthier in the summer, many of us pack on a few pounds over the warm months. Outdoor celebrating usually means eating and drinking.
On Breakfast Television I break down the best meats & veggies to grill, and which to steer clear of.
New York Strip
Lean Ground Beef
Lean Ground Chicken
Regular Ground Beef
Dark Chicken with Skin (The skin adds double the fat and 30% more calories; dark meat adds 30% more calories as well.)
Firm fish like:
-delicate fish like sole
Tips: don’t marinate fish for more than 15 minutes. Using a cedar plank to cook fish infuses flavour and the fish won’t stick to it.
Vegetables and Fruits
Potatoes and Sweet Potato Wedges – boil first
Asparagus – skewer and put on top part of the grill
Cherry Tomatoes – skewer
Onions – use large slices or wedges not cut through
Corn – leave in husk
Tofu – extra firm
Fruit – top grilled fruit with brown sugar and maple sugar
Romaine lettuce – grill lettuce and bread for deconstructed Caesar salad
